Black, the Blond Giant of comics, was created by the EsseGesse team in 1954. Together with the ever-hungry but genius Professor Mystery and the young Roddy, they fight against the English invaders to liberate their homeland, America, during the American Revolution (1775-1783). In Italy, France and Serbia, he has been one of the most beloved comic book heroes for decades. Similarly, in our country, since its first appearance in 1969 by Stelios Anemodouras, it very soon reached hundreds of thousands of sales on a weekly basis — an unrealistic number for the time. A magazine that managed to escape the censorship of the Junta due to its American protagonist, while its script talks about the struggle for freedom, with a strong resistance and anti-colonial element. Seventy years later, the adventures of this unusual trio continue to move and entertain readers. We hope to achieve this for you with this graphic novel series, through a selection of the best stories of the hero of our childhood.

In the hero's new graphic novel, we have the adventure entitled "The Companions of the Forest" (first published in comic strip form in Collana Freccia #22-42 – Serie II #1-21, 2-7/1955) which in Greece was published in issues #11-22 of the weekly 11-22. This is one of the hero's most classic and famous stories, created by the artistic team that created Black, EsseGesse. In our country, many frames and texts had been cut to serve the purposes of the older editions. All 224 pages of the story are published for the first time in Greece, collected in one volume, with a new translation and coloring, always with fidelity to the original — as it should be.

In the story "The Companions of the Forest", the American Revolution is in a critical situation. Due to financial problems, the fighters cannot obtain weapons for their cause. Black and his friends, in their attempt to financially strengthen the patriots' struggle, learn about the famous treasure of Akwat located inside the Ice Mountains. However, this treasure belongs to an ancient people of warriors with blond hair, who for hundreds of years have remained hidden from the rest of civilization - with the Iroquois Indians calling them "Blonde Indians". The prophecy states that "a curse will fall on anyone who confirms the treasure of Akwat!" So Black, Roddy and Professor Mystery embark on a journey - a real odyssey - to recover the treasure. On his way, the Blond Giant will come face to face with sea monsters, carnivorous plants, a cougar and a giant that will test our hero's endurance and bring him face to face with his most difficult mission yet!
