Popeye faces the rapid development of technology!
“I believe Popeye is the ultimate comic strip”

- Charles M. Schulz

We all know Popeye more or less, or at least have heard of him. His name has become known through films, video games, cartoons and of course comics. Internationally, Elsie Chrysler Seegar’s creation has managed to connect with a whole range of generations, from 1929 to the present day. In 2002, TV Guide ranked Popeye at number 20 on its list of “The 50 Greatest Cartoon Characters of All Time.”

Bud Sagendorf (1915-1994) is the creator with the longest career in the Popeye comic strip. He created dozens of stories of the beloved sailor, both in comic book form and in the form of daily and Sunday newspaper strips, and framed the universe of our beloved sailor with many new characters, while delving deeper into the already existing ones. In Greece, he became very popular through the magazines of the publishing house "Dragounis" that were published in most of the countries from 1973 to the mid-1990s. However, for practical reasons, his stories underwent changes, since they had been created to be printed in American newspapers, not in comic book magazines on the newsstand.

In the Classic Popeye Stories series, we present these stories in their authentic, original form. This is a series of our production, with the aim of reading the adventures of the famous sailor without any cuts, exactly as they were published in America. Most of the stories have been recently updated by King Features Syndicate and are available edited and in color. Those stories that had remained in black and white until now have been colored by our publications according to the standards of American publications, and are presented in the correct chronological order, in order to ensure absolute continuity.

In more detail, the following nine comic stories are included:

The Twisted Strike Back!
The Monster!
Lights! Camera! We're filming!
Blozo Has Turned into Smoke!
Bad Bella!
Magic Versus Science!
Today is a Wedding!
Sea Monsters!
The Last of the Witches!
However, you will find a series of tributes, including:

POPA.I.
The Troupe: The Mother of Radish
The Troupe: Otis O. Otis
The Troupe: Professor Watersnazle
The sixth volume includes nine adventures from the period 1980-1982. Most of the stories in the volume deal with the theme of the development of technology, which takes over the duties of a king (Blozo Went Up in Smoke), creates destructive machines and doppelgangers of our heroes (Bad Bella and The Monster), manipulates our heroes with the aim of conquering the world (Sea Monsters) or questions the age of magic (Magic vs. Science and The Last of the Witches). All of these stories deal with a theme that in the year 2025 is more relevant than ever — with Sagendorf's artistic concerns present in all of the stories. However, in this volume we get to know more about the supporting cast of the show, such as the Strimen, Professor Watersnaze, the multi-talented Otis O. Otis, and also Revythoulis's mom (yes, this is not an urban legend), while in the story Today the Wedding is Being Held it is explained why Popeye is eternally engaged to Olive, instead of getting married.

Don't miss another volume, which will immerse you in the entertaining world of our favorite comic sailor, Popeye!
