Bilbo Baggins is a good-natured middle-aged hobbit who guiltlessly enjoys the small pleasures of a comfortable daily life: smoking his pipe by the fire and savoring his nice meal. However, his peace is suddenly interrupted one day when the wizard Gandalf and a group of dwarves appear at his doorstep, doing everything they can to drag him into an adventure with unforeseen consequences for everyone.
Their plan is to seize the treasure guarded by the dragon Smaug (the Hoarder), with whom Thorin Oakenshield, a member of the group of dwarves and heir to the Kingdom of the Dwarves, has old scores to settle.
Bilbo Baggins has no desire to leave the idyllic village of the Shire. But as far as his heritage is concerned, Bilbo is half Took, a dreamy lineage thirsty for heroic deeds. Thus, the prospect of the journey awakens his hidden self and drives him to agree and take part in an adventure beyond all imagination.
