Board Game Wyrmspan

Wyrmspan is a standalone engine-building board game for 1–5 players, designed by Connie Vogelmann and published by Stonemaier Games in 2024. Inspired by Wingspan but featuring a dragon-themed setting, it offers a more intricate gameplay experience.​

Game Overview

In Wyrmspan, players take on the roles of amateur dracologists in a realm where dragons of various shapes, sizes, and colors soar the skies. The objective is to excavate a hidden labyrinth on their land and entice these majestic creatures to roost in their cave sanctuaries. Each sanctuary begins with three excavated spaces: the Crimson Cavern, Golden Grotto, and Amethyst Abyss. Throughout the game, players will excavate additional spaces and attract dragons to inhabit them, chaining together powerful abilities and earning favor with the Dragon Guild. ​

Gameplay Mechanics

• Excavation: Players use cave cards to excavate new spaces within their sanctuaries, each providing a unique "when played" benefit. ​
• Dragon Attraction: Dragons can only be enticed to spaces that have been excavated. Each dragon card offers distinct abilities, such as "when played," "once per round," or "end-game" effects. ​
• Exploration: Players send their adventurer meeples into caves to gather resources, eggs, and discover more dragons and caves. The more dragons present in a cave, the more rewarding the exploration becomes. ​
• Dragon Guild Favor: Advancing on the Dragon Guild track grants players additional rewards and strategic advantages.
