Gunkimono is a strategic tile-laying game set in feudal Japan, designed for 2 to 5 players aged 10 and above, with an average playtime of 45 to 60 minutes. Players assume the roles of daimyōs, feudal lords aiming to expand their territories and achieve dominance. The game combines elements of area control, resource management, and tile placement, offering a dynamic and engaging experience.

Gameplay Overview:

• Tile Placement: On each turn, players place tiles onto the board, either single squares or double tiles, each featuring two colours. Tiles must be placed on level ground, and the same colour cannot be placed on top of itself.
• Scoring Options: After placement, players choose to either gain honour points based on the symbols on the tile or score points equal to the number of connected squares of the same colour. Advancing on the honour track can unlock bonuses, including the ability to build strongholds.
• Strongholds: Constructing a stronghold allows players to score points equal to the size of the areas their forts occupy at the end of each turn. However, once a stronghold is placed, no player, including the owner, can score points from that area.
