On
the Star, Luke, driven by hatred, manages to disarm his father by
cutting off his hand. The Emperor gloats and tries to turn Luke to
the Dark Side of the Force, asking him to execute Vader in cold
blood. But Luke refuses to give in to his hatred any longer. The
Sith Lord then decides to kill the Jedi by invoking powerful bolts
of Force lightning. Seeing his son being tortured by his master,
Vader decides to act. He lifts Palpatine with his last bit of
strength and, not without being struck by lightning himself, throws
him into a deep ventilation shaft in the station. Struck to death,
Vader asks his son to remove his mask so that he can see him one
last time with his own eyes. Luke then leaves the station with his
father's body.
