Luke has premonitions and sees his friends in danger. He decides to go to Bespin himself, despite the warnings of Yoda and the spirit of Obi-Wan. In the City of Clouds, Han and Leia's bond grows stronger. But Vader and his troops are lying in ambush. Betrayed by Lando, Han Solo is frozen in carbonite. Vader then hands him over to Boba Fett, a bounty hunter in the pay of Jabba the Hutt, Solo's disgruntled former employer. Remorseful, Lando frees Leia and Chewbacca and takes them aboard the Millennium Falcon. Luke then lands in the heart of the city and is forced to face Vader in a lightsabre duel. The Dark Lord demonstrates his mastery of the Dark Side and gets the better of the young man by cutting off his hand, putting the Jedi apprentice at his mercy. Vader offers Luke the chance to join him in ruling the galaxy. When he refuses, Luke learns the terrible truth about his heritage: Vader reveals that he is his father. Realising the truth, Luke throws himself into the void and escapes the Dark Lord. He is then picked up by Lando and Leia aboard the Millennium Falcon and they manage to leave the planet safely. Lando and Chewbacca then drop Luke and Leia aboard a Rebel Alliance freighter and set off in search of Han Solo.
